The Welcoming Prayer Workshop with Mary Dwyer

  • Christ United Methodist Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in the midst of the ordinary routines of our daily lives.  To practice Welcoming allows us to make choices free of the domination of the false-self system.  We begin to respond rather than automatically react to life on life’s terms.  As the originator of Welcoming Prayer, Mary Mrozowski stated: “To welcome and to let go is one of the most radically loving, faith-filled gestures we can make in each moment of each day.  It is an open-hearted embrace of all that is in ourselves and in the world.”

Welcoming Prayer Workshop

The Welcoming Prayer is an incarnational method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to people and events in daily life. This “consent-on-the-go” embodied practice deepens our relationship with God as we move through the ordinary activities of our day, helping us to stay in the presence of God and the present moment. This retreat and workshop will cover the human condition and the basics of the practice. There will be guided practice sessions.

Registration is $20.00. To register click here.

Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop

  • St. Mary's Episcopal Church (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

About the Event

Centering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.

This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to deepen that relationship.

In this session, we will examine how Centering Prayer can deepen our relationship with God, others and ourselves. We will learn the method of Centering Prayer and how to deal with our thoughts during the prayer period. There will be two periods of Centering Prayer and a time for questions. A boxed lunch will be served.

Lectio Divina Workshop - This event has moved to online format.

Lectio Divina, literally meaning “divine reading,” is an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures. During Lectio Divina, the practitioner listens to the text of the Bible with the “ear of the heart,” as if he or she is in conversation with God, and God is suggesting the topics for discussion.

Like Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina cultivates contemplative prayer. Unlike Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina is a participatory, active practice that uses thoughts, images and insights to enter into a conversation with God.

To register click here. All are welcome!

There will be no fee for this event.

This workshop will be presented by Tom Benson, commissioned presenter for Contemplative Outreach.
